21/30.- Madurai, Sree Meenakshi Temple

The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva (here known as Sundareshvara) and his consort Meenakashi. Mythology says Meenkashi, an incarnation of Parvati (mother of Ganesha and Skanda), came to earth as a small child. When she grew up, she took control of the city.
