In the beginning of the 18th century, French authorities also forbid the Hindu festival that takes place here every year. Many locals left to Chennai, which left local business without workers. In the end, the French leader Dupleix became devotee of Lord Ganesh himself, and the temple and its festival were saved for ever.

The best day to visit the Manakula Vinayagar Temple is on Friday, when Hindus come here to do their poojas.
