Japan is a country that has a good tourist potential. For many years visiting this country was out of reach for most foreign visitors. Since the recent devaluation of its currency, and the deflation that has been affecting its economy, spending your holidays in this far east country hasbecome more affordable.

The length of your stay in Japan will depend on what you want to visit. If you only want to go to the two biggest cities, Tokyo and Kyoto, a week will suffice. Tokyo is a futuristic city, with a population of more than 12 million. Kyoto is the ancient capital, and has a vast collection of temples, palaces and castles. If you have more days, you can visit Nara and Nagoya. If you are interested in recent history you can visit Hiroshima and its A bomb monuments.

The offer of accommodation is quite varied throughout Japan. The best season to travel to Japan is Spring and Fall. Summer can be a little too hot. Winters are cold and gray.

Traveling around Japan is very easy. The country has an excellent network of trains. Especially recommended are the Bullet Trains (Shinkansen). The bullet trains will take you almost everywhere in Japan at a speed of up to 180 mph (300 Kmh).

People in Japan are very friendly and kind. The problem is that English is not widely spoken.

Tokyo is a city you definitely should not miss. It is one of the most unique cities I have ever visited. The capital of Japan is famous for its modern buildings, its neon flashing lights, and its surprising architecture. The city has an excellent network of public transport (subways, JR lines and buses).

The city of Tokyo has many centers, each one with its unique atmosphere. Tokyo is also the place to look for the latest electronic gadgets. Life in Tokyo can be stressing (even for the visitor), but you should stay at least four days to get to know the city well.

Kyoto is the ancient capital of Japan. The city has many points of interest. You will need at least three days to visit the city. In Kyoto there are some really impressive temples. You should not miss the Kyoto Palace and the Nijo castle. The city of Kyoto is also very famous for its Geisha bars.

Nara is one of the most beautiful cities in Japan. The town has some of the best preserved temples and shrines in Japan. The town of Nara can be visited in one or two days.

Hiroshima is well known around the world for the tragic event that took place here during the Second World War. The A bomb destroyed almost completely the center of the city. Some of the old temples have been reconstructed. If you are going to Japan, I recommend visiting this city. It will make you think about the nature of human kind.

Osaka is a modern city that has some points of interest. Specially famous is its castle. A stay of a couple of days will be enough for a basic visit, but Osaka has many hidden tourist sites. The longer you stay, the more you will like the city.

Nagoya is another modern city, similar to Osaka. It also has a reconstructed castle and a modern center. The city entered the tourist circuits in 2005 with the Aichi Expo. Two or three days are enough to visit Nagoya.
