Our journey starts when we fly from Islamabad to Skardu in Baltistan. That has to be the most exciting commercial air route in the world. The Fokker plane flies among some of the highest peaks in the world before landing at Skardu in a crucible of rock. Within a range of fifty miles there are eleven peaks between 18,000 and 22,000; six from 22,000 to 24,000; and eight from 24,000 to 26,000.
