The Seminoles are descended from a group of Natie Americans that were given a choice: Walk to Oklahoma or die. Many Natives died on the trail of tears to the middle of the continent. The ancestors of the Seminoles chose to run into the Everglades, where they learned to hunt and fish. General Andrew Jackson in the 19th Century created this sad episode of US history, but visitors to South Florida can benefit from the natives' knowledge of the flat, wet land.
