Since youre out and about and off the island keep on driving and go south on I 95 to Savannah. Its worth the approximately 45 minute drive. Such a happy-looking vessel is the Georgia Queen which will take you a cruise along the Savannah River. All along the waterfront are restaurants and shops, even pubs. Savannah was founded by General James Oglethorpe in 1733. He and his chum, Colonel William Bull came up with the impressive town plan of having commercial and residential buildings centered on a public square. Thus, in Savannah youll find umpteen Squares such as, surprise surprise, Oglethorpe Square amongst numerous others. The Visitors Center is a great place to start from.
