The road that goes to Negril runs parallel to the beach. On the other side of this road there are some cheaper and laid back places to stay. If you want to take a taxi to West End or to Negril's downtown, you can take it in your hotel. You can also cross the road and take a local taxi. Remember that in Jamaica cars run on the left side of the road --like in Britain. Jamaica used to be part of the Britannic Empire.
Although Jamaica became independent only 40 years ago, you do not see many British influences in the island. American influences are more evident everywhere. Especially in Negril, where most of the tourists come from the US.
