Cross over the Flagler Memorial Bridge and you’ll be in Palm Beach, the place to see and be seen. Mediterranean -style architecture, popularized by Addison Mizner, abounds here. The story behind the growth of Palm Beach is one based on coconuts. In 1878 a Spanish brigantine, the Providenica, on its way to Cadiz from Trinidad, washed ashore. Its cargo, coconuts and more coconuts, thinking the place looked rather nice, took root. Lo and behold a vast array of palm trees sprung up, and thereafter the land became known as Palm Beach.
