25/49.- Pittsburgh, Duquesne Incline

Menu

Pittsburgh is hilly. It might even be considered mountainous. At least some do, going by such names as Mount Washington and Mount Oliver. Up on Mount Washington, on Grandview Avenue, you can gaze down on the city below. Perfect spot to watch the 4th July fireworks, by the way. The Duquesne Incline takes you up and down, and down and up. It was built in 1877 and is worth a visit, even if you don’t go on the funicular railway itself, for inside are old photos depicting the history of Pittsburgh. From up here you can get an appreciation of the three rivers that float on by the city. You can also see how the city forms a point, aptly called Point State Park.
