The Dupont Circle golden age started in the 1870s, when a rich group of entrepreneurs, called the California Syndicate, started building their palaces in this area. One of the most beautiful houses is that of Cissy Patterson, former owner of the Washington Times. The building is known as the Patterson house. Unfortunately the building is not open to the public. The house currently hosts an exclusive women's club, the Washington Club.
