The busiest season in Lijiang is summer. From July to September the nice weather attracts visitors from home and abroad. Chinese public holidays should be avoided. The main local holidays are Chinese New Year, late January or early February; Labor Day, May 1; and National Day, October 1.
Many foreign-organized tours visit Lijiang, but most western tourists are backpackers and trekkers.
