There are different ways of visiting the backwaters. One option is to rent a small boat and take a one-day tour along the canals and lakes in the region. Another option is to take a local ferry from Alleppey to another of the towns in Kerala (Quilon or Kochi). But the best thing is to rent a houseboat, and overnight on it.
