The temple is surrounded by seven concentric walls, which represent the seven worlds. Each of the walls has several gateways, or gopurams. Sri Rangam Ranga Nathar has 21 gopurams in total. The tallest of them all is the Gopuram of Sri Rangam, with more than 236 feet (72 meters).
