The Balaruc-le-Vieux Medieval Festival ends with a sparkling fireworks show, custom-made to the city's shape and layout. Spectators are massed in a field at a safe distance, and (in this dry season, where fire hazard is high) safety precautions are strict. At one point, the whole fortified city seems to be on fire, while at others, it seems to be a fountain of light.
