The other interesting thing about Pinet is the remains of a Roman Road, the Via Domitia, which used to link Italy and Spain. Swift communications were essential for an efficient administration and defense of the Roman Empire. The roads were built on firm, heavy foundations and lined with large stone blocks to keep them together. A considerable workforce was devoted to maintenance and repair of these many-layered roads.
