As the Rhone (the river that has its origin in the Rhone glacier and crosses Lake Geneva) descends from the Alps, crosses Provence and meets the Mediterranean, it branches out into a large delta known by the name of Camargue, a wide stretch of marshland that used to be mosquito-infested, but has now become a narural reserve harboring species of animals not found elsewhere. Not all branches of the Rhone are bridged, and at some points visitors must wait under the baking sun for a small boat that will take them to the other side.
