An ancient city founded by the Phenicians and colonized by the Romans, Marseille is a huge and busy harbour town humming with life on all days and at all hours. The Vieux Port (Ancient Harbour) lined with cafés and restaurants has now become the marina hosting small pleasure craft, but small fishing boats and shuttles towards the Frioul islands just off the coast still board its quays as well.
