As pointed out already, the houses have a fireplace at each end. Over the fireplace hang ex-votos and pious pictures. The islanders were very religious people. Each end of the house contains a room, while the rest of the house (that is, the middle sector, about half of the surface !) is filled with furniture : closed beds (opening into the rooms)and chests of various sizes (for the grain, the clothing, and the tools), leaving only a small passage from the front door to the yard behind. Bread and other food would be hung from the ceiling. The table would have a dough trough under the surface, and the family would gather on long benches.
