A 17th-century fort used to protect the entrance to the harbour. It used to host a restaurant, but today it has been turned into a cultural centre with artists’ exhibitions.
Access to the inner court and the upper terrace is now possible only upon payment of a small fee. The terrace overlooks the harbour and the beautiful boulevard (Avenida dos Descobrimentos) lined with palm trees along the canal.
