Cabo São Vicente is the most South-Western outpost of the European continent, and just about as famous as its Westernmost extremity, Cabo da Roca near Lisbon. It was a sacred place for the Romans, and in the Middle Ages it was believed to be the end of the world.
The wind-swept cliff is a landmark for navigators, and its lighthouse is one of the most powerful of Europe. Henry the Navigator spent part of his life here and at the Ponta de Sagres (next picture), but here there are hardly any traces left of his presence.
