If you ever come to Cozumel, there are many destinations in the region that you should not miss. Just opposite the island is the beautiful beach town of Playa del Carmen, which you can access by ferry (45 min.) One hour North of Playa is the resort town of Cancun. And if you are interested in Maya ruins, you should not miss Chichen Itza (3 hours from Cancun), Uxmal (2 hours from Chichen) and Tulum (1 hour from Playa).
