In this photo you can see two blue tramways. As I told you before, these tramways go in the direction of the East. Tramways in Alexandria are really cheap and do run frequently, but are only recommended for the most independent tourists.
Although Alexandria has not ever again been the capital of Egypt, it was chosen the summer capital of the kingdom of Egypt. On July 26th 1952, the king Farouk abdicated, and fled to italy. On the same date, four years later, president Nasser nationalized the Suez canal. President Nasser was born in the district of Bacos, in Alexandria.
