50 miles North of Al-Quseir sits Safaga, or Port Safaga (Bur Safaga). Safaga is an active port, but there are also several tourist villages specializing in diving holidays. It is only 53 km south of Hurghada, and its waters are more unspoiled than the ones in the overcrowded Hurghada. From Safaga it is possible to book a day trip to Tobia Island or Mons Claudianus (a Roman penal colony).
