Montego Bay's tourist area is small enough to be visited on foot. If you want to go to downtown, to the airport, or want to do a day excursion, you can take a taxi. Most of the taxis in Montego do not have a taxi meter. Customers do not ask the driver how much it is to get where they go, they already know the price. They just ask if the taxi goes to a given destination, and pay once they get there. If you are a tourist you will be cheated some times, but after some days, you will learn the price of the usual fares. Usually tourists are expected to pay more than Jamaicans. If you want to pay the local price, you will have to share your taxi with other customers who travel in the same direction.
