In order to get inside the local church you have to get a permission from the Mayan authorities. You can get your permit at the town's city hall. Note that San Juan Chamula has an autonomous regime, and only Mayan police can control the area.
Outside the church you will be greeted by little kids who will try to sell you a hand woven souvenirs.
