Mr. John Ringling, the circus tycoon, found Sarasota to be a fine place indeed for his clowns and other performers to rest from their long trips. The Ringling Museum of Art with its paintings by Rubens, Van Dyck, Poussin and other baroque artists, is renowned as the state art museum of Florida. Visit the Circus Museum too.
