West from Amed is another beach town, Lovina Beach. The area is laid back, but quite busy during the top tourist season (Jul-Aug). I don't recommend visiting the area during the low season, when there are more hustlers than tourists.
The sand of the beaches in the area is black, which is not what I expected from a paradisiacal island, but I guess some visitors may like it. If you want to stay in Lovina, I would recommend a nice hotel with swimming pool.
