44/48.- Damascus, Damascus Citadel

The Citadel, located on the Northwest of Old Damascus, was originally built during the Roman period over a pre-Roman camp. The fort was further expanded and strengthened during the the 10th-12th centuries in order to protect the city from the crusaders.
