Hello, and welcome to Holland, the western provinces of the Netherlands, bordering on the North sea. Before we embark on our virtual trip, let us look at a few stereotypes most of us have about Holland.
One of these is that Holland is a land of milk and water -- a flat country of cows in pastures with little houses and plenty of windmills.
As is often the case, the stereotype has a factual basis, but it is an exaggeration. It is a fact that Holland is a very flat country -- hence the concentration of bicycles -- and a great producer of milk, and yes, there are still many windmills, some of them still operating, more about which later.
