This is the most popular street in Almaty. A few years ago the well known Gorky Street of the soviet period was renamed to the Silk Route in honor of the historical Silk Route or Silk Way, passed near by at the ancient time. Historically it was one of the most crowded streets of the city, as it connected the biggest shops and the Green market. Now there is no transport traffic anymore and it is the favorite street of inhabitants to walk for shopping or to visit outdoors cafes. Here you see the open air painting exhibition.
