This part of the city can be considered the New Lyon, in contraposition to the Old Lyon. This quarter took shape after the construction of the Lafayette and Hotel-Dieu bridges in the 19th century. In the middle of the 20th century the quarter of Part Dieu underwent a complete change, with the demolition of the quarter barracks to make space for an administrative and shopping center. Soon after, the famous market of Lyon was moved from the Cordeliers to the Part-Dieu quarter.
